Chasing my boys on the beach

Not a serious production, just some clips of me chasing my boys in Santa Cruz and Capitola. This was handheld (except for a couple sailboat clips) and I used the Sony .8x wide angle adapter.

Superb filming Buck, one of the best family videos I have seen in a long time. The love for your children shines through. Thanks for sharing

Thank you very much, Oliver!

My oldest boy turned 5 this weekend, had a pirate themed birthday party, put together a quick trailer of the party while I work on a longer version for the families who attended. I'm new to editing, don't know much other than dropping in clips, no color grading or anything. Can't wait to learn it though!

Your shots look very clean to me, there are many books on colour grading, I have read several, but most are heavy reading. My advice is, if looks good on a TV then it will probably be OK. If you are shooting video for broadcast or other professional work, then get reading. (Color Correction Handbook - Alexis Van Hurkman - Peachpit Press - $59.99 - includes a DVD - ISBN 978-0-321-71311-7 )

Regarding your Pirate party and other videos. I like the way you have taken the camera down to a child's eye level, it really works. You must be either very fit or exhausted running after the children, it adds a great deal of fun to the movie. Did you use the wide angle lens for all these shots?

Regards Vincent

Re: Chasing my boys on the beach

Thanks again, Oliver, for the compliments and the book suggestion.

I do use the Sony .8x wide angle adapter almost always while shooting... in both these videos that is what I used, except one shot with the Century .55x (and one shot with my Canon 5DII and 24mm f/1.4 lens). It was all handheld except a jib shot of the piņata. I've chased my boys around enough now that I can keep the camera reasonably stable while following them, but you are right, I'm exhausted at the end of the day, bending over so much, ha! It's nice being able to compose with the flip-out lcd while holding the camera low.
