PXW-X200 lens ramping

Someone commented that the X200 lens may have a constant f1.9 iris. Is this true, or does it ramp? If it does ramp, what does it close down to at maximum telephoto?

Thanks!

Paul

If it's Fujinon, the minimum is F2.8 at full telephoto. At 0db gain it should be unnoticeable. Only when you gain up will it become more apparent.

Jack is right.
I thought the lens did not ramp because the IRIS remains at F/1.9 on the display as you zoom from complete wide open to complete telephoto.
In a quick test I just did, it seems to ramp from f/1.9 to f/2.8, even though the iris numbers don't change on the display, which is not very good by Sony...

Re: PXW-X200 lens ramping

It's typical for broadcast 2/3" cameras to show the physical iris value from the lens in the viewfinder, but most small cameras, X70 included, show the ramping as it occurs. I think it's a bug in the X200 that Sony should address in a future firmware update.

f2.0-f2.8 is one stop, or 6db of gain BTW. Thanks for checking Rob!

Discovered exactly the same here, F/1.9 to F/2.8. Forgot to mention it in another post on the X200

I think the same thing for the original Sony EX1 (or the Fuji 14x lens). Lens showed f1.9 but you could easily see at the end of the range that it closed down a little.

My X180 ramps from f1.6 to f2.4. f2.4 arrives around 65% zoom, and the display tracks the ramping as it happens.
