Sony PXW-X180 getting ready to update with Firmware Version 3.0 at DVinfo.net

Does anyone know if I need to apply Version 2.0 of the firmware to the camera first? The release notes don't give any update firmware prerequisites. Sony should provide a simple statement in the first two sentences of their release notes that the firmware update is complete and includes firmware revisions that came before, it if this is the case.

When I performed update on my X180 I believe I did it from version 2.xx, so I can't answer your question. I didn't see anything about upgrading only from a specific version in the docs when I did the upgrade. My personal feeling is that it's safer to do them incrementally -- but I tend to update to newer versions when they come out anyhow -- because there's usually something in the new firmware that I really want.

However, when you download and unzip the firmware package you will see an "Important-Read Before Upgrade" file included in the package, as well as a complete set of upgrade instructions. READ THEM BEFORE YOU START!!!

You need to upgrade BOTH the System Firmware AND the Network Function Firmware !!!

Also pay attention to specific sd card sizes and locations locations for performing the update.

Dave thanks for your suggestions. Definitely will keep an eye on the instructions and read them completely before the upgrade. It took a while to find the right SDHC card because so many of them are UHS-I now days. But finally got the right one so that's no problem. Went back to the Sony X180 Download website to try and download the Version 2.0 upgrade firmware, but it's grayed out (not available anymore) so that must mean go straight to the Version 3.00 for the firmware update.

Ended up applying the latest updates directly to the original ones version 1.0 and had no problems.
