Which tele zoom??
I now have a Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and a Tokina 28-70 f2.8 along side with some old Nikkor primes for my F3.
The last lens i really need now is a tele zoom. I've been considering the Nikon 80-200 ED f2.8 but I am afraid that 200 mm won't cut it. Are there any alternatives that still have top quality glass and are resonably fast? Also - is it absolutely necessary for me to get a lens support for my rods if I get the Nikon 80-200 or will the MTF-adapter be able to handle the weight on it's own? If so - any advice on alternatives to the expensive Zacuto Lens support? Thanks! |
Re: Which tele zoom??
80-200 is great lens. I've always been happy at 200mm but that was on a 35mm adapter. Will test with the F3 in the next few days. Re weight. It seems OK but its probably safer with some relief.

I've got a Sigma 70-300 F4 APO. Not as fast as the Nikon, but a nice lens otherwise.

Allister - is it the dirt cheap f4-5,6 Sigma you mean. How is the optical quality? is it really good enough?

Re: Which tele zoom??
Had a push pull at one time and optically it was great and cheaper. Actually it worked well but pulling focus got me nervous as I was always afraid I would affect the zoom. I'll check for sideways motion. Never have noticed it in the past.
