File reading problems
 

Does anyone have a similar problem in Final Cut Pro not being able to read the F3 MPEG 4 files recorded on S x S cards? I had to transfer the files into MOV using After Effects before Final Cut Pro recognise them. Am obviously doing something wrong here.

Also don't understand why the manual says the camera records in MPEG 2 Long GOP but the recorded files are MPEG 4. Does MPEG 2 only results if you record via dual link or external device?

What is your workflow?
Are you using/ have you tried the Cinemon plug-in so that FCP can read the cards (bpav folders) directly?
Or are you having trouble using XDcam Transfer to convert the BPAV folders to FCP MOV files?
Do you have a workflow you've been using with XDcamEX 1/3 cameras that's not working with the F3?
Let us know step-by-step what your process is and we can try to help you in the right direction.

You need to download and install the Sony XDCAM Browser software. Then from within FCP you clip "Import" "XDCAM Browser". This will start XDCAM browser. In XDCAM browser choose the files you want to import and right click or select "register to Final Cut Pro" then in the window that opens hit execute. The files will be re-wrapped to .mov's and added to the FCP project.

You can also buy and install Cinemon from Sony which bypasses the need to re-wrap the files into the .mov folder.


The camera records Mpeg 2. MP4 is a folder or wrapper for any type of mpeg content and should not be confused with mp4 which is normally H264/Mepg4.

Don't forget that file container and video encoding format are separate things. An mp4 container can contain video that is encoded in any number of different formats.
