You better have a monster of a computer to watch this in 4K (kick it up to 4K on youtube and let it load first) Pouring Rain shot off my balcony at night with the Sony FS7. The subtle details are amazing to me.

Would it be a total travesty to use this camera in XAVC-L mode at 25/35/50? I do mostly corporate work, and trying to archive stuff shot at 111mpbs would kill me.

Mike, not at all. When I owned a F55 85% of the time I shot XAVC HD and was very pleased with the results for the same reason.

Absolutely not. The best part about this camera is that it is flexible enough to use on so many different types of jobs.

Re: New Sony FS7 4K XDCAM at IBC 2014

This topic has been "dead" since December 24.

Has anyone else gotten their FS7K's in yet? I received mine yesterday (should have been Dec 31 but there was a mixup on shipping speed).

So far everything seems to be working well - V 1.10 firmware had already been installed. The kit lens is really good albeit HUGE. It looks as though I will be shooting shoulder mount. I haven't really noticed the camera listing to the left as others have mentioned - I only have to put mild pressure on the handgrip.

I have a Sigma 18-35 with the Sony LAEA 4 adaptor as a second lens and it really does well in low light. The iris wheel seems to be very responsive with really no lag.

Are the clips on the handgrip arm to secure the coiled handgrip cable new or were they on the first FS7's shipped?

I also note that I'm getting 53 minutes per XQD 128 G series card shooting in XAVC-I QFHD @ 29.97P which was a pleasant surprise since they mentioned 44 minutes in the original specs.

I'm looking to buy a FS7 in the next week or so. I'm a bit surprised Sony don't include a QXD card (even a small one!) with the camera.

Re: New Sony FS7 4K XDCAM at IBC 2014

Agree on the cards. At least a 32gb could have been included.
On the other hand I hardly ever used my 8gb card that came with my EX-3.
I received my camera 2 days ago as well. Xmas delayed the process a bit. .
I didn't get the lens yet, so I'm using a meta bones Ultra.
Have to say my Canon 24-70 f2.8 suits the camera well. Footage looks good, but have only played a bit at home. I have to say the menu system is a mess. Not the layout, but what can be on or off to be able to have LUTs on in the viewfinder etc. Took me many hours to figure out that lens compensation can't be set to AUTO if you want to enable LUTs in the viewfinder.
Loving the form factor, wish I could afford a Cabrio or Canon 17-120 so i didn't need the hand grip.

I didn't use the 8gig much either with my EX1 but it got me started!

I'm picking my FS7 up on Wednesday. I'll be using it with a 18-35 Sigma 1.8 and Metabones adapter to begin with. Unfortunately the supplier has no XQD cards so trying to get one elsewhere.

LUTS will be a learning curve for me. Havent used them before

Anyone tried the Sony SELP18105G lens with the FS7 or have any thoughts on how it might go?

I'm looking forward to hearing if that lens covers the Super 35 sensor without any vignetting.

Any Lens recommendation ( 28 to 135-200mm ) for this Camera with or without adaptor with power zoom, auto iris, Full Frame, 4K resolution, other than the FS7K kit lens, that can open up to 2.8 iris, under $3000.

I'm using it on a FS-100 with no vignetting. I don't understand why they insist on not having mechanical focus and zoom, but if you can get used to it, it's a good lens. If it had mechanical focus and zoom, it would be the perfect all-around lens.

Re: New Sony FS7 4K XDCAM at IBC 2014

Hi Mike,

I've gone ahead and ordered the SELP18105G. By all accounts it sounds like a pretty good 'bang for buck' lens until Im in a position to buy the 28135 down the track.

I really like the Sigma 18-35 so will be keen to see how it goes with FS7 using a metabones adapter.

Picking up the FS7 tomorrow! My trusty EX1 can enjoy a well earnt semi-retirement as my B cam :-)
