I have made a great inside or outside of the car camera mount. I use the smaller suction head for a driver cam and the larger for a outside winshield/high speed shot.

I purchased my suction base here: Wood's Powr-Grip: Camera, Scope and Accessory Mounting Cups

Mounting a standard spare Bogen tripod head and using a threaded bolt, I cut the head off then threaded the bogen head to it (the mount and the head both use the same size of threads).

I have seen the very same mounts going for $150 and up.
