searching for DVD or book for beginer

As a poor student, workshop is over my budget. I do practice by myself with the Glidecam and the JVC HD100 at home but I always correct myself differently. I'm so confused what the correct way for using it smothly is. Thus i'm searching for DVD or book or any tips, but it's difficult to find out. I bought the "Advanced steadicam techniques" DVD, but it seem to be far away from my knowledge. If Someone know anything would help, Please give some advice. How did u practice when u were a beginer?

I don’t know if you are using a full rig or a handheld, but…

Try and get a copy of the "EFP Training Tape”. Cinema Products used to ship these with Steadicam EFPs. It's presented by Ted Churchill and Jerry Holway and it talks you through the basics.
It’s aimed at full rigs, but it should help you with your understanding of setup and balance.
A good tape if you are starting out.

There is also a lot of resource material on Steadicams website.
Do try to take a workshop tho, if you want to progress further.

Thanks alot

Some good steadicam reading: http://www.steadicam-ops.com/soamanual.shtml

Doesn't Glidecam have any similar support for their rigs?

Glidecam has a whole collection of movies, both their own and those made by users, available for download from their web site, have you looked at these? The URL is http://glidecam.com/videos.php

There's a thread on Glidecam training here: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=16069

And another thread of related interest here: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=49851

Assisting an experienced Steadicam or Glidecam operator in your area is a excellent way to start learning too.

Much of the stylistic and technique training that applies to the Steadicam will apply to the Glidecam, however, the specifics in terms of balance and esoterica will of course be unique to each.

Good Luck!

Try contacting Tiffen to see if they have any videos lying around. They probably don't, but it's worth a try.

Rick.

Whatever you do, avoid "Steadicam : Techniques and aesthetics" -- by Serena Ferrara.

This "book" was originally written for a master's thesis by the author, and although there are a few interesting interviews, this is not a book that will teach you Steadicam operating techniques, despite the title. Pass.

Hey Charles, how's your training DVD going? :)

Quoc

Trung,

We are also looking forward to Charles' DVD. He's and excellent teacher and his DVD will be first class. Until then...

We are putting together a "Stabilization Basics" training DVD instructed by Cody Deegan. We just need one more day of shooting but Cody's tied up for the next few weeks. Once we get the shots we need it will be editing time.

It should be an informative and fun DVD and is intended for the beginner and novice user.

Here is a link to what we intend to cover:
