Z1 steadycam

What would be the best stabilizing system for a Z1 with about 7 pounds of accessories. I have been looking strongly at the Steadicam SK2 with NP1 battery mount. Would this be the best one under 10 grand for the Z1. Thanks for the help.

Steadicam Flyer.

Z1 at about 5lb +7lb of gear puts you at 12lb. That's absoloutly Perfect for the Flyer (that holds up to 15lb).
12lb is a little light for the SK2.

Also a the Flyer is a MUCH better rig than the SK/SK2 .. The arm is a world apart, and the sled is much lighter and more flexible. Monitor is way better (16:9 & color), and the Flyer has a Socket block which is rather crucial too.

I'd recomend IDX V-mount batteries.

You can get a whole kit (rig + batts + charger) for $8,495 direct from Tiffen.

Mikko, great info, thanks. One more question, Is there anywhere on this steadicam to mount a Z-Rock Lanc contoller that would be easy to access. Thanks again.

Mikko Wilson July 19th, 2006 11:21 AM

Not familier with the Z-rock. But there's good space on the gimbel yoke - where your right hand (unless goofy) goes - to mount a zoom controller. This is fairly common, I have a Libec one on my Archer in the same place.

Sounds like you may be new to operating? (My apologies if you arn't) If so, I'd recomend you also look into taking a workshop. A very good place to start with the Flyer is www.steadicamworkshops.com ... and actually, Peter who runs the workshops is also a dealer. Give him a call.
