Improvised 'space trolley' - any ideas?

Sorry, I don't know if this is the appropriate forum...

I often hike/climb etc. in Norway, and usually have some rope e.g. 9mm static cord with me for safety. Has anyone tried rigging up a 'space trolley contraption' to take shots? I suppose it would need some kind of brake or similar, as well as a method of preventing the cam from swinging too much (weights below?). Just curious if someone's tried this....I think you could get some pretty cool shots...e.g. over cliffs, rapids etc...

Thanks...I really didn't want to do my homework...they pile it on here at CU!

Sounds like you are describing a "cable-cam" Many different versions from different companies, and a lot of DIY units out there too.

And if you are really up for an eye-opener, check out "Sky-cam" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skycam), which is a 3D cablecam.

Thanks - saw your replies on DVX user forum - I know there's a 'fully sick' ski movie out recently which used the proper skycam setup - forget the name. Guess I'm after a DIY forum tho'!
