Using the DVD logo on duplicated DVDs/cover art
 
I'm going to go ahead and use Kunaki to duplicate an initial set of DVDs including the case. Does anyone know of cost-effective pathway for having permission to use the DVD logo in the artwork of a retail DVD?

To avoid the issues, I had my graphic designer build a SIMILAR but very distinctly different logo.

MOST end users don't recognize the difference.

I would be a little bit careful here. If a look alike is close enough that it looks the same to an "average" person it is probably close enough to get you in trouble.

How long do you think it would take for someone to come after you if you changed IBM to TBM in the same zebra font style? Particularly if you used font with a serif at the bottom of the T. Particularly if you intend retail distribution.

The replicator must include DVD royalties to Philips in their quote, and this gives you the right to use the standard logo. Same goes for Dolby or copy protection, etc. Funny Kunaki doesn't even mention these things. Why not try createspace or Indieflix? I have my movie set up on both and have had no issues with them.

Jim: I can only speak about MY particular solution but it is fundamentally different enough. If you placed 10 "versions" of a DVD Video logo in front of 1000 casual viewers, I'd suggest only 10-20% would choose the CORRECT one.

Besides, MY DVD logo looks less like the real one than the stylized logos that come with the DVD face printing software I use...

But yes, merely changing the kerning by 2% would likely land you in trouble. We spent an hour building a logo that contains little more than 3 letters and two concentric circles.
