Different pricing question - teaching?

I got a odd request the other day to come into one of the local high schools and teach Adobe After Effects a few times a semester to a video class. It'll be very basic stuff. The details are still smudged as far as when, how many days, and how many classes per day, but they asked me to start throwing together some prices.

I got a pretty good structure for pricing for clients and video work, but this one threw me a curveball. I am not sure where to even begin. Has anyone else been part of this type of situation?

It will depend on a lot of factors such as the prevailing market in your location, your experience as a training facilitator, etc. Have you written Adobe's expert certification exams for After Effects? That can affect your rate as well.

Steve, those are questions I didn't even think about.

Training wise, I am not a teacher nor trainer. I have done both before in a smaller setting, but as a professional, not so much. Certification - not either - thought about it, but never thought I would need it.

I believe they are expecting the "You do this in your everyday life, and your pretty decent at it, SO come and share your secrets" ordeal. My pricing for clients varies from $35/hr to $65-75/hr - just depending on how much effort is need to be put into the hour. Should I just think about it as pricing like a client - how much preparation need to put into the lesson.

I am not worried that I would provide a negative impact or not being able to pull my weight in the classroom, just this is a situation that just popped out unexpected. I'm a PT youth/college minister, so the teaching gene is somewhere within me.

I'm a professional software trainer in my 'day job' and your median client rates are right in-line with trainer's day rates in a corporate/industrial/government setting.
