Process steps I need to take to get stock footage???
 

I hope that this is the proper forum subsection to post this. :)

What are the procesess that I need to go through for finding and requesting and then getting to use public domain stock footage from a stock footage library?

What type of contracts are involved? What would be my limits of use?

I am new to all of this and know nothing. It is intimidating. :(

1. Look for footage (Google is good place to start).
2. Find footage.
3. Contact company that is selling the footage.

Every deal is different, and every contract varies. Stock footage is not always public domain footage, and public domain footage is not stock footage. They are two different things, but they may overlap.

Note that this can sopmetimes take a lot of work to find what you are looking for and that you can afford.

It depends on what you're looking for. Are you familiar with archive.org?

There's a lot of public domain stuff there which you can download. The licensing information is spelled out for each clip, but quite a lot of it may be freely used - notably the Prelinger Archive.
