Tax Question
I hired a second camera man in 2016 for two events for a total of $550. This falls under the $600 minimum to send a 1099-misc. Can I still deduct this expense? If so under what? I figured there must be others here who have hired help.

Re: Tax Question
You should speak with your accountant to determine whether you hired a contractor or a freelance employee.

Re: Tax Question
You hired a contractor. Yes the $550 is still a write off. I'd 1099 him anyway and I require a W9 before I cut a check (to make sure I get the w9).

Re: Tax Question
I did some digging:
1. Its deductible in form c, line 11 Contract labor. 2. Under $600 you aren't required to issue a 1099 but still can like Mike said. It's all about being able to prove it if you're audited. I already document it in my checkbook but in future I will also invoice it too. |
