question:flying from canada to us with gear!
im flying out in a few days and i want to know what type of issues will i have trying to bring my camera across the border. My camera was bought in the us few years ago so i dont know if htat makes a difference or what.
Can smoene who flys frequenlty between can/us shed some light on this issue. thanks |
I flew in from Thailand in August and I had to pull the camera out and then they ran it thru the "wipe" test (for explosive compounds?) It took an extra 2 minutes. That was before the liquid bombers. I also know that each airport has a different security rating. I flew into LA LAX.

Canada & Cameras
Was just up in Calgary. Nothing to worry about. May get wiped for explosives, but that's about the end of it.
PS the xrays won't hurt your DV tape or flash memory. If you are shooting 35mm still film, stick them in a clear plastic ziploc and write "push to 1000" on it. US and Canada rules allow for hand inspection of film over 800ISO. I've had film ruined by xray machines dialed up to "high bake" before I learned this trick. Do not pack your "exposed" tapes/film in baggage, carry them with you. |
yah..i dont mind the wipe for foreign materials.... i've dealt with it before flying between canadian cities.
I talked to the canadian customs and i will bring my gear to them and get a document done about all my gear so the US wont get suspicious and Canadians on the way back will let me through. |
