Chuck Norris
 

Just saw one of his infomercials where he and his
wife are peddling an exercise machine. It appeared to
be video that had been film-looked.

What elements made it look like film? I know the infomercial he does, but don't remember anything particular about its look.

Chuck did a movie in Vancouver a number of years back. On scene was in this Iranian restaurant in North Vancouver (around Lonsdale 14th area). In this scence he used 2 very, very bad Iranian words---which both mean the same thing. Very funny hearing that come out of Chuck's soft spoken mouth.

The commercial was most likely shoot with video. But who knows.

Looked like it was deinterlaced.

Pretty impressive resume that has spanned over 30 years. NOt great works but has a market I suppose.

I had seen some old fighting footage of him years ago. He was, very very good. He seems to favour his spinning back kick (targeting the lower stomach area), at least in his movies and Walker. My wife loves Walker, so I'm forced to have it in the background when I'm typing away here.

Chuck is cool, first time I saw him was in Bruce Lee's Return of the Dragon, the big fight at the coliseum. He even filmed a movie in my home town, El Paso, Texas.

Remember the line of jeans he was selling, it had a special crotch design that allowed you to kick real high while wearing those jeans.

I'm up for seeing a Chuck Norris/Dylan Couper death match. I bet if winner's prize is an XL-2, Dylan will definetely kick Chuck's butt.

Chuck was well known well before he was in that Bruce Lee movie, depending on how old you were when you started your martial arts training. :-))

The jeans are good for going into battle. But it's easier just to phone 911.

But how is it something out of the ordinary that informercials and regular broadcast content is "film looked"? Here in Sweden (and the rest of Europe) we've been switching on DVE/Strobe (fast deinterlacing) and crushed blacks (similar to curves) and added saturation settings since the very early 90's on almost everything that's produced including infomercials. And let's not forget "instant sex". Have you ever seen a show like Joe Millionaire without "instant sex". The many times I've been in the US I get the same impression from TV.

It's also very possible that a high profile infomercial could have been shot using s-16 or 35mm. It's been done before.

Well, guys, I wasn't sure if there were one "r"s or two
in Norris' name so I googled it and the first thing
that came up was his "official website", complete
with a personal auditory welcome from Chuck.
Anyways, it said on his site (to my recollection) that he was the
undefeated World Middleweight Karate chapion for six
years straight. I'd like to see some of that fight footage
you saw Frank. There's gotta be some around.

Yeah Chuck is great... and yeah I really like him in " the return of the dragon"

Any of you guys do martial arts?
I myself do Shotokan karate-do.

Highly off topic but fun anyway:

I've trained Shotokan (my favorite Karate style because it's very simple and straight forward) for several years a long time ago. Other than that I've been into a wide variety of Bushido arts. Aikido, Taijutsu, Kenjutsu, Iaido, Kendo, Kyodo. I also used to train Ninjutsu (the style was Ninpo GoshinJutsu Mu Te Jinen Ryu).

My guess is that Chuck Norris style is what's usually refered to as "American Eclectic". Most of the American fighters that practiced knock down Karate during the 70's used it (like Bill "Superfoot" Wallace). It's kind of an American army version of Okinawa Karate. Not much Kata. A lot of Kumite.

Martial arts is GREAT for Steadicam operators. Every operator should practice Martial Arts (or Ballet).

Chuck had a 'school' in Orange County (I think it was Orange County) back in the 70's and my dad worked out there (knew Chuck and learned from him NOT buddy buddy with him). Once, Priscilla Presley came in there as Elvis trained there too (My dad met Priscilla NOT Elvis).

I think old Chuck fight scenes are available. In the past I seem to recall it being sold in Black Belt Mag's ad section.

Man, the Octagon. I tried to see that in the theater way back and they wouldn't let me in because they said I was too young. Never have seen it. I did manage to get in "Good Guys Wear Black" though. Cool movie.
