Very slick! Loved the trailer. What was this shot on?

Glenn Chan December 24th, 2004 11:54 PM

You could try using a (color) curves filter instead of a contrast/levels filter for better results. With a curves filter, make the curve look like a "S". Whites will not clip but gradually blow out, and the same thing with blacks. You'll still get a little gradual detail in highlights and blacks.

Some of the shots look a little dark... you can increase gamma to fix this. Or in a curves plug-in, make it concave down (more). If your NLE has (vector)scopes and histogram it can help you out a little, although using your eye is probably the best as the human brain/eye combination is weird and does not perceive things like scopes do.

It looks excellent for a school project though!

Its all shot with a Canon GL2 and some shots are with the Century Optics .3x Ultra fisheye

Looks good, just out of interest, what software did you do your titles on?

Giuseppe Palumbo December 30th, 2004 12:41 PM

I did everything is sonic foundry vegas video 4

I'm just begining on this whole dv-film deal. I got magic bullet, and read through the manual for AE and it is pretty sweet. How do I adjust the gamma? Would this be done in FCP?

Graeme Nattress January 2nd, 2005 01:29 PM

For FCP check out www.nattress.comf for Film Effects. It has very comprehensive and easy to use levels controls that offer really nice gamma adjustment. Also does the 24p stuff if you don't have it in camera.

how did you do the text flash at the end of showing each text before you faded to the other text? Did you just use the pan to make the text move around? what kind of system are you running that on?

Giuseppe Palumbo January 3rd, 2005 09:01 PM

Im not sure about what text your talking about but i just keyframed brightness and contrast to the titles i made. then i also keyframed the movement... im just simply using nothing but a Dell 8200, external 200G hard drive and 512 mb of ram, wish i had more but...everything runs pretty smooth in Vegas with real time editing that it has

Matt Hagest January 4th, 2005 11:35 AM

man, i try so hard to get that same look as you.. great job!! what steps do you take in order to make it letter box view?

Giuseppe Palumbo January 4th, 2005 02:24 PM

well, i just made a Widescreen bar setup in Photoshop that was 720**480 and then i imported it into Vegas video 4 and then i put the widescreen bars on the top layer and then i changed the layer to (mask). After that then i just added the other video layers on the bottom of it with the audio and then i keyframed all of the video and made it just go up and down to fit everything in the desired area. Anything else just ask

Giuseppe Palumbo January 4th, 2005 02:47 PM

I made a test video so that you can see how everything works... i hope it helps everyone understand how i did it...Reply with what you think of it.
