Dvx100 film look footage

Hi, all
I am watching this forum for a while and I really appreciate this community, it’s a great great source of knowledge for me.

I’ve shot those two clips as part of my demo I am working on …and I would love to share it along with some details

www.ahproductions.com/public/video

It’s shot with dvx 100 (no modifications)
Manfrotto tripod (501 head)
Avaible light + one portable reflector

Location: in front of my apartment
Duration: 1h

Post Productions 12h
Edited on premiere pro (24p)
Then After effects 6.5 (import the entire project)
Colorization in the clip “rain” is a custom made set of layers and soft masks
Color finess was used in the clip “blow” to speed up the process.
After I was satisfied with the first result, I’ve rendered the clips in uncompressed format (QT animation) and passed it through after effects in 16 bit mode using the Elin plug-in (mainly to control exposure)

The 3d part in the clip “Blow” (letters), was created using 3ds max 6 (particles)

The music is made by my friend Laurent Eyquem

I would love to hear some comments

If I sound weird, sorry, it’s my first post ever .

Thanks
Albert Rudnicki

Very nice! A pitty it is so short, but I understand, it's just a demo. Keep up the good work!

Nice work on the clips. Definitely an inspiration for me. I'd like to see more of your work. Also, what effects did you use in After effects?

Chris Metts June 8th, 2005 09:39 AM

Great stuff Albert, the ripple effect came out nice at the end of the "Rain" one.

Wow

that's great work. I just wondered what you used for each clip. How did you make the rain... What program did you use for the titles and floating letters.. WOW it look good... thanks

One word...

Sweet!!!

Wonderful blend of music and images. I look forward to seeing more examples of work from you, and from your friend Laurent. Welcome to DVinfo!

I’ve posted a list of tools I used in my original thread.

The rain effect is made in After effects (3d mode), and it’s made of the free falling white letters. I have applied a motion blur to it, so it gave a more realistic look to the image.
Floating letters are just the simple text in after effects (3d mode, to align with the perspective) I’ve tracked two floating leafs on the surface and attached the text to it. The ripple effect is just the plain ripple effect.
Voila

But hey, I think I am going off the topic here…

Impressive!

Your use of music and effects strongly reminds me of the mini transitional clips the Sci Fi Network drops in between commercials and the featured program. Is that where you got your inspiration? God! But your clips are jolly good!

Hey man !!!! both clips are terrific !!!!

Those are nice clips of great work. Thanks for sharing them (and what you used to make them).

Very nice. You must have done that opening shot from "Rain" from really far away, the shallow DOF looks amazing. I was really shocked when I saw that and read "unmodified DVX" looks almost like mini35 footage.

Albert Rudnicki June 17th, 2005 12:30 PM

Thanks
You’re right Matt, I zoomed all the way in, and kept the f stop around 2, shutter speed around (360-500)
It may be not very precise, but it’s close.
I find that dvx, although amazing camera, it doesn’t have all the artistic quality in the optics (considering what I needed at the time).

Personally I can’t wait for an HVX, given all, combined with a 35 adapter and humble set of photo primes…you are looking at a revolution (at least at my place …)

Create create, the tools have arrived 

Look amazing. Really good cinematography. Post more stuff here when you have some.

nice work there!

I liked both of the files. The girl is shot beautifully. The effects are great. The rain effects are cool, but the scene wehre the drops come from the sky and fall on the girl are a bit weird, but nice end there in the water. Amazing. NIce colour and composition. Looks very profesional and different. You are a pro all right. The letter video is different and looks good. NOthing wrong there. I would change the colour of the letters a bit and let it be more like the girl,
