A Car scene

Has anyone rigged their camera to their car to do a moving car scene? I'm shooting on a Canon 7D so I'm assuming it will be easier with a smaller camera. I'm just worried about it falling off the car while driving.

Anyone have luck with this?

Rigging a camera to a moving car SAFELY isn't a trivial thing.

Do you have any budget to buy some rigging or are you trying to do it with what you have?

And yes the smaller and lighter the camera the easier it is (in general) to secure.

For a 7d you can get a nice setup to hold it to the windshield or other smooth surfaces for about $300.

If you can afford a bit more something like this will take care of you very well - FilmtoolsŪ 3025 Jr. 4.5" Suction Cup Camera Mount w/ Triangulation Kit Bundle

If the cost of ownership is too high the next best option is to rent some rigging for a weekend to get your shots done.

Sorry this is a little late. I used a Delkin Fat Gecko Mount with a Sony Webbie. It worked well.

Fat Gecko Double Knuckle, Dual Suction Cup Camera Mount

I was trying to hunt down a video I took on the car, but can't seem to find it.

It worked very well...I guess you could trust it with your 7D...but I was a little paranoid with my $130 Webbie!

Good luck!

A little late here as well, but here's how we rigged a Panasonic HVX with a Redrock Micro onto a car hood. We rented a suction type car mount, but opted for sandbags and ratchet straps instead...just seemed safer at the time.

Sorry for the wrong pic! Here's the right one, showing the car mount rig...
