On a PC with Premiere 6. what filmlook soft is out there (anyone in Vancovuer?)

Hi there

I'm doing a short film soon and am shooting in DVCAM. wondering, with my Premiere 6.0, what can I use to get the film look? I know about Magic Bullet, but don't want to try to learn After Effects (however, is anyone here in Vancouver, Canada, with it? we should talk). I tried DVfilmmaker and it didn't make any difference at all.

What else can I do, software wise? Also, how long would it take for Magic Bullet to finish working on a 10 min film?

thanx

As for the last part of your question, it is dependent on the speed of your processor. I have noticed an average 1 to 10 increase in processing with a single magic bullet filter in Vegas 6. So 1 second takes 10 seconds to render. A ten minute film would take 100 minutes. Other filters will take longer is you stack them together. I mean, a heavily effected 10 minute movie on a slow computer could take several hours.

Crush the blacks in the shadows. Correct the colours. Deinterlace and change to 24p or 30p. Much of the filmlook is already in the can, though, and therefor too late. Good lighting and good camerawork.

DJ Kinney:
I'm seeing about 1:30 on my Pentium 2.6C (2.6ghz hyperthreading) and Vegas, which is an order of magnitude slower. Are you running an AMD64 processor?

Wow...I'm baffled. With no other filters, just the filters in the Magic Bullet Editor, like Saving Private Ryan, or the Ohio filter, I see a 1:10 increase in render time. The computer is a Pentium 4, 1.6 GhZ! It's old skool. It is totally dedicated to the Vegas cause, though, with pretty extensive software tweaking with System Mechanic, so that Windows XP is as maximized as it can be. No IMs, no Real Player stuff at startup.

I wonder if this software comparison should move to the Vegas forum. I am absolutely facinated by what could make a 1.6 GhZ run faster than a 2.6 w/ HyperThreading.

I would move up to premiere pro. I believe you still get a couple free magic bullet plugins with the program and you can do all of your magic bullet movie looks right inside of premiere without learning after effects.....althought I would learn after effects if i were you.
