Lip Sync, Slowmo feel but real time.

Alright guys I have a client that has asked me if I can come up with this look, so I am going to ask anyone for input/ideas as to how to achieve this.

Here is the skinny as far as how I would go about itt but need opinions:

1. Accelerate the music track when shooting by the amount of slowmo needed so that the artist sings the song a whole lot faster.

2. In post "Using the Actual recorder song, slow down the video on the timeline by the same amount used during the shoot.

Please feel free to shime in even if you only have ideas as to how to achieve this.

For an example of whta he wants go see the "30 Seconds To Mars" "From Yesterday" Video in yahoo music.

Video is kind of long so have patience until you see the guys actually singing.

First off, great video. I had not seen that and that is an excellent music video.

You pretty much have the gist of what needs to be done as far as shooting slow -mo and with real time music playback. I am doing the same thing for an upcoming video and have shot a few music vids in the past that were all done without any offspeed stuff.

It looks like you are shooting on a Canon judging by what equipment you list. If you can get your hands on an XDCAM 350, HVX200 or a JVC HD200 and shoot at 60fps with 24p plackback you will get your best-looking slomo footage, since slowing down 60i HDV footage is not ideal. But either way, figure out how many speeds you plan to shoot (or edit) in. You could probably say you just want 1 slomo speed, like half or quarter but some videos do a couple different slomo speeds. For my upcoming project we are shooting 24p and will do some 60fps and a 40fps takes. Therefore we created playback tracks at 250% speed (for 60fps takes) and 166% speed (for 40fps takes). I made my plackback tracks in ProTools but FCP, PremPro, or most audio programs let you time /stretch compress (without pitch shifting) the track.

Let the band practice with the offspeed plackback tracks as they will not be used to singing more than twice as fast with their song.

Let us know how it goes.
