i'm from massachusetts.

hey, i'm from mass, i'm going to be a high school senior next year. I'm getting very interested in film and if anyone was shooting a movie in that area, i would love to come and watch.

Also, i was looking for suggestions as to what camera to buy if i have around $2500 saved.

Rob

You have a variety of cameras available in that price range, but you'll also need a tripod and some other gear, so be sure to allow for those extra expenses as well. There's a lot to be found here from just browsing our boards, so dive right in. Welcome aboard,

Cool, welcome, i'm going to be a sophomore next year, myself.

For $2500, right now, check out the GL2, which can be had for around $2000, and then you can spend $500 on some accessories, such as a tripod, extra battery(s)...firewire card...etc.......but in the near future that will probably change.

hi rob, you HAVE to get the XL1s. it's really the ONLY dv cam to get. of course others will disagree but that cam is the only with enough interchangeable lenses to whet your appetite.

i'm from BOSTON! too and there's sorta a community here... but actually not as much as the other places of the country. here's the local 'connections'/hookup site:

www.newenglanfilms.com

and there are some local movie-makers going to battle of shaker heights movie premiere next friday:

maybe i'll cya there.

Rob and Yi,

Nice to hear from other Massachusetts-based talent!

Why not pay a visit at the next BOSFCPUG meeting? The meetings are free and very informative and you'll get to network with a slew of other local people in the industry. The meetings are held every month around the 20th of each month, usually at the BU campus on Commonwealth Ave in Boston. You can sign up as a member and keep posted on upcoming BOSFCPUG events at http://www.bosfcpug.org.

Keep in touch!

what kind of 'talents' show up there? only fcp (appleuser) editors? if so then i can't afford apple and i wanna find more actors and other artists instead of editors only =(. thx for the offer though. glad to hear there's another one in Boston =). new england is primarily and nonfiction state =) unlike LA.
