40, but still feel like 18 (but less regularly than I'd like).

That's because the next stage for those of us in our sixties means that it's too dark for a camera to be used.

Some one stated that the age of the members of the forum drops off quickly after the sixties. My reply to that is above.

Younger in spirit. Prehistoric in photography. God I love my HD-DV. I don't miss my Bolex H16 Turret.

Well, this year I turned 59 - been making docs since 1974, and it's more fun all the time!!

Love the new world of DV - soon to be HDV.

I'm 17 and I can only hope the age/skill continuum is exponential. ;)

53 myself

"I think membership here really runs the gamut--we have plenty of teenagers and folks in their 50s and early 60s--but the numbers fall off sharply at 70s and 80s." Well, trust me, membership in anything starts to fall off in the seventies and eighties.

There was for a while a certain popular maxim about age: Age is just a number. I thought that was the funniest thing, as it posits the absolute denial of the value and effect of both experience and learning, and takes no responsiblity for either. No wonder it was a popular maxim. Probably still is popular.

I just started asking people when was the last time they said that to a five year-old child. Silence is usually the response. That or laughter.

Age is of course not the issue. Experience is. What have you done with your time?

Like the old soldier saying to the young soldier "'This your first time on a battlefield? Just a kid, you got so much to learn!" "Guess so" says the rookie. "Dunno how you're gonna catch up, kid. Me I got 20 years experience under my belt. Howya gonna stay alive long enough to catch up?"

One thoughtful answer is that the old-timer is more likely to have one year's battlefield experience repeated 19 times.

About forty three. Ahem.

But I agree with those who feel 15. Boy, a big part of me will forever be 15. Going to amusement parks, flirting with girls, riding my bicycle everywhere, doing tiny things that get me in trouble with superiors. Life is good.

I'm about 5 years ahead of you Phil, and I agree 110% with everything you said! They say 50 is the new 30.
