Anyone from Myrtle Beach, SC?
 

Hey there.. I'm John Harris and i'd like to introduce myself as a freelance videographer in the Myrtle Beach, SC area. I'm still a low level novice when it comes to DV but i've found out that it's a pretty easy learning curve (yeah, right...).

Currently, i'm using an XL-1S, Sony MiniDV and an Arri 16SB to film stock footage here in the MB area for an upcoming project my friends and I plan to cast/film/edit in the fall. The idea is to produce a homegrown "mockumentary" about our area along the lines of Christoper Guest's work (without the ad-lib dialog) or Michael Moore's movies (minus the politics).

So far, we're on the right track filming an incredible number of hours during the major weekends and festivals for the practice. We've gotten several "man on the street" and "girls gone wild" moments on tape with a comedy bent and a heck of a lot of stock footage about the area. Tape is cheap, so we've been burning it up.

I also just moved into a new home and i've already painted an 8'x8' section of wall with four coats of Sherwin-Williams "Irish Green" paint to do some Chroma-key. It works great!

crossovers shooting both DV and on the Arri camera. You combine
footage in shorts/movies?

That's the plan, although the expense of shooting direct to 16 mm and paying for the digital transfers are more than we anticipated. However, there's nothing like shooting direct to film for a more organic moviemaking process.

So far we've shot about 800 feet of film with the Arri (about 14 minutes) and we're happy with the results, although the transfers do look a little bit saturated compared to the XL-1s.

So I'm assuming that you are going to do color grading/correction
in the digital world on the film footage? What are you going to use?
