Vancouver Idol is auditioning at Metro Town on Saturday. We are going to have 2 people doing some interviews... this should be good for some laughs.

Hi, from Vancouver, NV MX 2500
 

I have the number right too. Nobody seems to have the same camera as me. Anyways, I have the english manual for the nv mx 350A from oz which is close enough to get me through most everything I need to know. I bought the camera in korea for a smoking deal but have already had problems with it which I sent to japan to get fixed for free. Whew! It was an expensive fix. Just got it back and have put away a few tapes and have read a few books on filming and just wanted to join a newsgroup now to pick peoples brains since I'm a young spring chicken and don't exactly know the ins and outs. I'm working on it though. So, hi, go canucks and I'll be chatting later....hopefully to someone who also has a 2500.

Welcome, Lisa! (The MX350 is a PAL cam only. There was never a NTSC version made, even in Japan. ) The MX2500 is a Japanese/Korean model---and called the PV-DV952 in North America.

Ever tried Cavision's follow focus?
 

Hi guys,
Since you all live in Vancouver, I was just curious if any of you have ever tried Cavision's follow focus? I have already Cavision's matte box and I am very happy with it. I am in the proces of buying a manual lens (Canon's 16x manual servo) and I also need a follow focus. Cavision's follow focus looks great, and would definitely fit onto the rods of my matte box, but I am not sure how the gearing feels etc. I would hate to spend $600 bucks on a follow focus that I am not happy with. Since the Chroziel is too expensive, I might just have to rent one in stead.

I haven't used it, but unless you need it for long term use, you might be better off renting it.

re: Follow focus

I haven't checked it out myself. I came to the conclusion that most of my shots, because of DV's deep focus, allowed me to get away with murder that would've been too soft in 35mm.
Plus the XL1 has a soft look to begin with.

I assume you have a dedicated focus puller? Must be nice. ;)
But I don't see why their stuff wouldn't do the job.

What I think would be more usefull, especially if you have the handgrips, is to have some sort of servo that is automated by a screwon handgrip. Or use I think one of them LANC controlers and the 16xIS.

I'm kind of impressed with the DVX100 having relative focus distances (even if it is 0-99) in the viewfinder. Much easier to get numbers for actors on marks, then just dial in without having to take your eye away from VF and potentially pulling soft during a good take. It would be better if you have real distances, then whip out the tape measure, then pull.
