Hello from Santa Cruz, California

Hi everyone,
I am new to the whole DV thing. I have an education in conventional photography and am currently working as a wedding DJ and MC. (Don't ask how I got into this) anyway, the guy I work for wants me to start doing wedding videography, so I said, what the hell? The pay is better than what I have now and I'd prefer it. So I'm doing research as to what camera to buy and so on. I think I've decided on the Canon GL-1. I really like the XL1s, but the price restricts me. Maybe I'll move into one in the future. I suppose I could scare up the $, but with the GL-1 being so versitle, I think the XL1s would be overkill. Anyway, that's who I am and what I'm doing. Great forum everyone. I'm glad I found it!

Welcome aboard Kyle! There was an interesting thread a couple
of days (or perhaps weeks?) ago about what gear is handy to
have for weddings, how many camera's etc. Try using the search
future up top to find it. The GL1 is an excellent choice, but the
camera is no longer being made. It has been replaced with the
GL2 at the moment! Go over to the GL1 forum to see a couple
of threads with information and pictures of the new model. We
are currently awaiting pricing information and such. You probably
can't go wrong with the GL2 either.

Rob,
Thanks for the info, I'll look it up!

Welcome Kyle!

If you haven't done so already you might check out the Wedding and Event Videographers Association (www.weva.org). It might be a worthwhile group to get hooked-up with for tech tips and networking. The dues might also be tax deductible depending on your situation, or perhaps your boss will pay the dues. Who knows, pretty soon maybe your boss will be working for you.

AWESOME! Thanks. I feel right at home here already!
