Hello from the not-so-sunny South

...at least, it sure hasn't been sunny lately...

I'm Charlie in Atlanta, Georgia - a native, believe it or not.

My interest in video is via the back-door: I need to create some training videos & other video-based materials, both for my own educational purposes, and to create salable training materials (DVD), and since I have limited funds for hiring people, a DIY mentality, and a background in still photography, I'm trying to get myself up to speed while I still have gear money!

Add to that a life-long love of acting, the actor's craft, films and film-making, I don't want to aim too low...but neither do I want to squander resources by aiming too high.

Like a lot of people, I've been drooling over the 100a, the XL2, but these are almost certainly over-kill; I'm not sure if I should be looking in a lower range or not. As for editing, FC & my Mac will do fine (or else...).

Thanks to everyone here for the great knowledge-base, and to Chris & his wranglers for keeping the place tidy!

As for the average age thing: it's 53 here.

Hey Charlie,
I'm in Snellville and work in Duluth. What part of the city are you in?

Welcome!

Hey Charlie, welcome. What part of Atlanta you in? I have been in Atlanta 21 years now. I also do education videos, plus a lot of nature and travel. I use the XL-1s and edit with Vages5. I shoot a lot at Piedmont Park and the Botanical gardens. Bob Safay

Hi, guys!

I'm in Doraville, used to live near Piedmont Park, though.

I have NO video gear @ this point; I had settled on the GL-1 a few years ago, for general quality / utility in the price range , but had to abandon the project for lack of funds; now, I find I have sufficient cash & the GL-2 is looking like an even better deal than its predecessor - and looks like it could produce training-video-quality output.

Sorry - going in a dozen different directions at once!

Thanks to all for the welcome: I'll be around!
