SEC Consultant (what I do for a living)

I don't fit the traditional concept of an accountant, but that's how I entered the business world. I'm a CPA and can cut and paste and add with the best of them. I do it for the money and because I enjoy the mental exercise and because I feel needed. Important people depend on me.

But... .

I have a book to write and a documentary to create about growing up in a Texas orphanage where the chilren were tortured. And they grew up and became adults and that's the story--what happened to the kids who got beaten and watched other kids get beaten every day of their lives for the 2 years that the place was run by a monster. Last X-mas I shot a couple hours of footage of a reunion of these folks.

If you want to read some of my stuff, go to www.MontyHeying.net/Anthology.

So I really need to learn film editing and that's why I'm here, to learn as much as I can as quickly as I can. These people are starting to die off, and I need to get moving on the project.

Monty,

I clicked the link to check it out, and found myself engrossed. I didn't even mean to, but I read every single one of the 21 poems and stories. Such wonderful writing, and such compelling subject matter in all of it.

Definitely shoot everything you can, for your documentary, starting immediately. Capture it to your computer and start playing with editing it. It will make you a better camera operator as you see what you could have done better to allow for better editing and a better film.

The two things I see the most successful pro's saying, are:

1. just do it, start making your movie right now, do NOT wait.

2. the content/story are far more important than the medium. In fact the medium doesn't matter at all, as long as you did the best you could with what you had. In other words, a low-end camcorder documentary about something riveting will be seen as a far better film than a high buck boring one.

Thanks for sharing
