Hello from San Diego!

Hey everyone, my name's Jonathan. I'd probably describe myself as an enthusiastic hobbyist. I've always been interested in making videos, but I could never bring myself to do it as a living. However, that doesn't mean I don't like my toys =)

Currently my setup includes a Canon 7D with a 35L and 50L, but I'm hoping to eventually pick up an XF300 as an A-cam.

I've done a couple music videos and weddings for friends, but nothing too serious right now. Hopefully I can get some paid gigs in the future and fund this hobby.

Looking forward to learning more about the art of videography!

Welcome Jonathan, I'm in NYC but I have family in San Diego. Never been.
Anyway, this forum is a great source of learning, enjoy.

Hello Jonathan, welcome to DVInfo.

You might take a look at the DVC and UWOL challenges. (separate sub-forums here)
It's a great way to learn, and a lot of fun.

Hey Jonathan, I'm in San Diego too! Looks like you got some nice toys to play with - what do you edit with?

Hi Guy,

I edit with Adobe CS5 at the moment. I was a Final Cut Studio guy but when I decided to build a desktop, I figured the hassle of a Hackintosh wasn't worth it.

Hi Jonathan and Guy,
In case you haven't heard yet, the San Diego Filmmakers meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month, usually at Groovy Like a Movie, but sometimes at Video-Gear. It's a mixture of actors, cameramen, writers, directors, and a few others. Here's their website:
San Diego Filmmakers

P.S. -- You don't have to be a full-time pro to attend. Many are just part-time pros. And some, like me, are most-of-the-time amateurs, just doing occasional professional gigs.

Nice, thanks Ken. I've actually rented a few things from Video-Gear before. I'll try to make it out some time if I can get out of work early enough.
