G'Day from the centre of outback Australia

I just realized I have been floating around here for over 7 years now but have never introduced myself!
My name is Chris Tangey and I run a media production and services company called Alice Springs Film and Television. Our town, which we often just refer to as Alice or "the Alice", is a very remote place (population 25,000), a bit like Timbuktu I guess. To give you an idea, the nearest city in any direction is 1500km away, and there are only 3 other towns as big as ours in a 1000km radius. This is the real outback, not the "pretendy" one you might see on reality shows.

Despite our isolation we never get bored, in fact many would say we get lots of work BECAUSE of our isolation. Living in Alice for 26 years now it becomes your whole world. Like an island in an ocean of red sand, you can't commute here from elsewhere so that's probably why everybody gets on so well with each other! Not only do we make our own productions mainly on a Sony PMW350K XDCAM
( see: Alice Springs Film and Television ) we also provide services for visiting productions and crew, as well as Location Managing and Location Scouting. In fact it was on a feature film scout about 18 months ago I got my 15 minutes of fame when I stumbled across a fire tornado:

Skyfire-a dance of giants on Vimeo

So, if ever you are needing something shot here, file footage of the outback or somebody with serious outback experience to manage your production on the ground, please give me a call.

Well it's really a bit late to say welcome then. But it is good to hear what you are doing there in the Alice. I love the country round there, ever since my first visit in '83. I was up again recently (ish) in 2010 to see my brother, but it is a long what from anywhere and the airlines seem to know it!

I really liked the video. I have seen those sorts of events in bush fires in the Pilbara (not as good and no video), they are spectacular.

Oh, I don't know why she's leaving,
Or where she's gonna go,
I guess she's got her reasons,
But I just don't want to know,
'Cos for twenty-four years
I've been living next door to Alice.

:-D

Might be next door Andrew, but it must be a pretty wide fence!
