Panasonic x920 files
 

When I download files from the camera and onto the computer, I open the folder to view the files. What I've noticed is one colored icon file and other corresponding files with the same file numbers that look like blank white pages.

I'm trying to figure out how to treat them.

How should I treat these blank white page files? Should I delete them? Are they needed to assist the main icon file? Moreover, when I change the main icon file name, am I supposed to change the name of all the other blank white corresponding page files?

What NLE software? It is never a good idea to rename OR delete anything from the card, looking for trouble as the various bits can be related to one another and you don't know what does what in there.

If using Premiere, the recommendation is to copy entire content of SD card to hard drive - change nothing, do not use "transfer utility" software. Just straight copy. Then in Premiere, import using the "Media Browser" panel and not File > Import. This provides best results, for instance no gaps between clips with longer recordings.

I'm using Cyberlink Powerdirector 12. What bothers me about using the file numbers that come from the sd card is that I don't recognize the scenes. This is why I change the names.

That is a big no-no. You're supposed to leave the numbers as is. You end up damaging the file structure so that even your camera can't even read the files anymore.

Yes, you can just copy the .MTS files if you're doing short takes, but for longer takes, you MUST keep whatever's on the card as is. Copy everything, change nothing.

Cyberlink is also a terrible video editor. I'd highly recommend moving to Sony Vegas Movie Studio. It handles files so much better.
