Hello from Clearwater!

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to introduce myself.

<monotone, stammering, afraid-of-group-speaking voice on>

My name is Phil, and I live in Clearwater, Florida. I work as a technical support engineer (no, not a flip-card reader!) for a major computer hardware, software, periphreals and consumer electronics distributor in Clearwater.(We're the ones who sell the Best Buys, Computer Citys, etc. a lot of their stuff)

I have a pretty broad background-- everything from broadcast engineering experience at a small AM radio station to working part-time at a low-power TV station, and being a paid firefighter-paramedic and a police officer in between. (Heck, I could never make up my mind what I wanted to do when I grew up... still can't.)

My hobbies are amateur radio, photography and, of course, DV.

Additionally, I have a side business as a Wedding and Event Videographer (fun!), with a little dash of component-level electronics repair thrown in for good measure (kinda fun).

Equipment-wise, I use a dressed PD150, TRV950, a dedicated AMD Athlon XP 2400+ with 2gb of RAM for NLE with Premeir 6.5, Pinnacle Edition, Pinnacle Studio 7 & 8 and I'm just now learning VV. (It's cool working for a distributer--good deals on NFR software!)

<monotone, stammering, afraid-of-group-speaking voice off>

Okay, that's enough yabbering for me. Normally, I don't like to speak about myself. Just wanted to be polite!

Thanks!

-Phil

Welcome aboard Phil! You have been doing a lot and looking at
your post you still are, that's great! I more or less know the
feeling since I'm at least interested in a lot and I've got my
fingers in a lot of things as well. I hope you'll enjoy your stay
here and see you around!

Hello!

Hi Rob,

It's kind of embarrasing in some ways when people (or prospective employers) ask me about my work experience. I give them the run down of my experience, they look at my birthday on the app (I'm 34) and say "yeah, okaaay.... right".

I started out as a firefighter. Being single at the time, I was able to work a straight 48-hour shift and have the next five days off. For me, five days off with nothing to do got boring REAL fast. So I started using the extra time off for going to school and working other jobs. The rest is ongoing history...

Just by reading and browsing around, I have already discovered how friendly everyone is. I have to say this is one of the few boards I actually feel comfortable posting to!

Thanks!

-Phil

I'm glad you are enjoying your stay! One of our most important
aspects is to have a friendly place and have it stay that way. We
all try to help eachother out.

I can imagine some people might be skeptics about what you've
done in your life, but that is their problem! I say the more you
have done and experience, usually the better!

Good luck with everything.
