What app to buy for playing BR discs?

Hi,

I'm about to buy the Buffalo Blu Ray burner. It doesn't come with the appropriate software for playing a blu ray discs. Do you guys recommend Power DVD (if so which version), or something else?

Thanks,

You have to make sure your monitor is HDCP compliant and it's highly recommended to use Vista to play Blu-ray discs. Not only that, make sure your computer's CPU and/or GPU is fast enough for Blu-ray.

If you are using XP and use a non-HDCP monitor, try SlySoft's solution, InterVideo and Cyberlink will not support non-HDCP monitors or operating systems that don't fall under "Trusted Computing" when playing commercially produced Blu-rays.

If you have the right computing equipment (HDCP monitor and graphics card, Vista's trusted computing), I'd say PowerDVD's a great bet for those using high end graphics cards.

Thanks, my stuff is all HDCP compliant. My system is not high end, but not bargain basement either. But I am running XP, though. Hopefully there won't be any problem.

Your best bet is to get a PCI-E x16 graphics card with Nvidia's PureVideo HD or ATI's Unified Video Decoder.
