What's going on with Digital Juice?

I keep getting the emails that they are "retiring" products. (and I have taken advantage of some of the incredible deals.) They've retired the SD Jumpbacks, the Editor's Tool Kits (though the "singles" survive) Backtraxx (granted they were becomign long in the tooth and some of the tracks were purchased from other libraries) the Videotraxx stock footage libraries, now they are "retiring" the HD Jumpbacks.

There are still a lot of people (like me) still producing in SD. HD is becoming more mainstream every day.

Has the Market for those products, the Jumpbacks in particular, dried up that much? It seems to me the market would still be there.

The way I look at it, once the product like that has been developed and you've sold enough to recoup the costs of production, it's just duplication (in this case apparently outsourced to India), marketing and order fulfillment. Mostly "gravy" at that point.

Or am I just missing something or is something else going on?

Marketing strategy

I also took advantage of some of their deals.

What I think it is, they are just trying to sell more of them by scaring you. They 'retire' some stuff, then they bring it back. This is what their January 1st newsletter states:

"For the past two months we've been retiring and liquidating our Jump Backs inventory. We've had unbelievable deals as low as $3.95 for a product that once sold for $249. Hopefully you've been able to take advantage of some of these deals and fill out your collection. We've been getting inundated with requests to bring a few of the volumes back that sold out too quickly. So we've decided to offer all the volumes back in stock until January 5th when they will be officially retired and pulled off the site. The volumes that we are currently sold out of will be made available for $16.95 until Monday".

Reminds me how Disney ads state that this is the last time this movie will be released on DVD before it goes in the vault forever...or until the special edition Blu-Ray comes out.

So many commercials, shows, etc etc were using Bactraxx and Jumpbacks that the music and effects just got old. So they kinda put that stuff in "retirement" and make fresh things for everyone to buy and overkill with again and continue the cycle.
