Saw the future today
 

I was in the NEC "Products in Development" showroom today and saw something pretty cool. A spokeswoman was showing off a new TV/Computer model that is voice operated. She told it to turn on and it did. Then told it to get the current weather, check for events that day, and even registered for something...all from a stretched out position on the couch.

But what surprised me was when she said "Download my video from Hawaii last spring" and it loaded up and then she started editing it by voice. I couldn't tell what program was being used...I'm not familiar with PC video editing software, but it wasn't an amateur program. It had the same layout as FCP but the windows had dark gray backgrounds. She took it through all the steps to produce an edited piece...and never left the couch.

Cool, eh?

Couch potatoes UNITE! Our day has finally come! Mwahahahahaha!

Now if they can make it portable and able to fit into the dash of a car then I have just discovered how to make bumper-to-bumper traffic profitable (other than running along side of stopped cars and washing windshields for a buck a throw).

See, it all sounds good, until you put it into the real world, and you realize it doesn't work like the computer on Star Trek.

In the real world, your brother will constantly shut down all your programs for fun by yelling "Exit Program" in the background.

Your mother will make the whole thing shutdown and only come back on with her voice command when she yells "TIME FOR DINNER".

And let's not even get started with what an angry girlfriend could do if you spend more time with the computer than her ... yikes, now I'm scared of that brave new world!
