Full Frontal.
 

Watched Full Frontal the other week. Shot on DV. What are your thoughts on the movie and the "Jump Cut"(or what i assume it to be) editing style?

Thanks jeff. I've read that thread before. But most comments there seem to be centred around "video->film look" which i thought was off-topic for this movie. This is the first movie i've seen that was cut the way it was. I found it a successful piece of story-telling.

Anyways...

Personally I really hate that style of editing, and find it unfulfilling to keep jumping between completely different story lines. Actually I found "Traffic" even more disconcerting than "Full Frontal". I switched it off about halfway through because I found it so annoying.

In fact, I was just about to give up completely on Soderberg, but recently watched "Solaris" and liked it. Perhaps it was due to the fantastic nature of that film and the mysterious quality that permeated it.

But we all have our personal likes and dislikes....

Boyd. I was referring more specifically to the intentional jump cuts in framing and discontinuity - where the camera shits slightly in composition, the elements are same sized but shift in position. This is used extensively throughout. Very disorienting but i guess that was the intention.

I actually thought Traffic was brilliant.

Yes, "Solaris" comes highly recommended. I have yet to see that.

Any manga fans here? Has anyone seen "Avalon"? I think it's a french sci-fi feature but directed by the same guy that did the legendary "Ghost In The Shell".
That should be a decent watch.

Might be splurging on some dvds off amazon this week. dv features on my list to get - Manic and Personal Velocity. Someone mentioned Chelsea Walls as a good dv feature too. Hmmm...
