I'm sure you are all tired of my annoying threads but I have another question...

I read in the paper that my town is throwing their 4th annual film festival. I decided I want to enter one of my BMX videos in the festival. But, in the rules they state that the only categories allowed are feature films, shorts, comedies, animated works, or documentaries. What would my BMX video fall under? Its just a 45 minute video of me and my friends riding our bikes. Thanks to all who replies.

Too bad they don't have a category for sports because that is what it would probably fit under. If not, then documentaries. But I suspect they probably wouldn't accept it under that. Why don't you give them a call?

I just tried to call them. The number they provide only allows you to listen to a machine that tells you the date and stuff.

What is a "feature film"?

A feature film is usually a fictional narrative work that is more than 60 minutes long, usually 90 minutes.

To make things confusing, you can also have documentaries which are 'feature-length'. But in this case, it sounds like they are distinguishing between fictional narratives and documentaries.

OOhhh. Well anyways, my step dad told me to just mark it as "feature film" and send it in for inspection. So if they won't accept it then oh well, I guess it's not the end of the world.

I would go under the "Documentary" category and pay the fee based on the length of your project.

Whatever you do, make sure that the program keeps a nice, brisk pace. 45 minutes is a very, very long time, especially if the person watching isn't into the subject matter. You might want to consider shortening it a little bit.

OK, I know...there isn't one shot in the program that you can delete without ruining the whole thing! Trust me, I've been there and I've done that. Just remember, you have to hook your audience and then carry them through to the end.

Always leave them wanting more!
