Apple: Dual-Core G5 chips before Intel switch?

I first read this, and got excited:

http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2005/...07113252.shtml (this is an announcement)

Then I read this rumor, and got very excited! Two dual core chips would equal 4-G5 processors:

I'd buy one of those! BTW, it's rumored that Steve Jobs himself will be delivering the keynote in Paris. (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2005/...05165226.shtml)

Those would be very cool and would certainly calm everyones' fears about buying a Power Mac before the Intel transition.

Interesting times these...

I agree! I read a recent article in MacAddict (Sept 2005) that explained some stuff about dual core, and once I understood what it means (2 processors on one chip), I got excited. They also explained hyper-threading which means making a processor act like 2, unless it's doing two hard-core apps, then one will run fine, the other not so well.

Two-64 bit, dual core hyper-threaded Intel chips would not just be 4 processors on 2 chips, but with the hyper-threading, it would be 8 processors (according to MacAddict).

Then I read this:

http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1234

About Intel's dual core, hyper-threaded chips are ready MUCH earlier than expected.
