Final Draft - FADE IN:

Has anyone noticed that every single screenplay style template for Final Draft aligns FADE IN: on the right? Yet every book on screenwriting aligns it on the left?

Anyone know why FD does that? Is that considered more current?

I have no idea, I use Scriptware. It aligns it on the left, where every script I've ever seen puts it. FADE OUT goes on the right though...

Which version are you using, John? Because I cannot seem to
remember it being on the right in version 5.

Rob,

I'm using the newest version for Mac OSX...6.0.4.1.

I went through and created a new blank screenplay from each of the templates provided, Cole & Haag, Warner Bros, etc...and every single one puts "FADE IN:" aligned right. It doesn't seem to distinguish between FADE IN: and the formatting for other transitions such as CUT TO:

Just in case...

Anyone comes across this post and still wants to know the answer...

With Final Draft, you need to change "FADE IN:" from a "Transition" to a "General" entry to align it left.
