Quality website (A Bit off topic)

Hey people i got a quick question. i notice that websites always look better on 64bit macs and normal windows. do any of you notice this. could this be to do with the 64bit processer?

Could you define "better"?

The image on my iMac is clear and crisp. My PC LCDs don't look that great. You think they do, till you look at the Mac.

Christopher Lefchik August 8th, 2006 08:54 PM

The quality of a computer image depends on the graphics card and the display. With the right components a computer running Windows or any other OS is perfectly capable of rendering an image as clear and crisp as the iMac.

Anyway, Nathaniel’s question was regarding Web sites, not the overall computer image.

goto www.logikstudios.co.uk on a windows you will notice that the buttons are really low quality. If you goto the same site on a new mac you will see all the buttons are crisp.

so this could be to do with the graphics card

I took a look at that site. Those buttons are being reduced from their original size right on the page (300x70 to 145x33), which is not a good practice. Not only do they require more bandwidth than if they were made at the smaller size to begin with, but the problem you mentioned occurs. I believe what you are seeing is simply the quality of different browsers rescaling images. It should have nothing to do with the OS or the graphics card.

Macs do display graphics differently. They seem to darken the image, and saturate it more. Not saying everything looks better on a Mac, just different. I like QT, because it also seems to saturate colors better.

What you are seeing is the difference in Gamma between Macs and PCs. As for video, at least what I've seen is that Windows Media Player renders video with more saturated colors.
