New HD and Art Forums

Although this site is called DVinfo, some of the audience uses higher end formats. I would like to suggest a forum that would cover 100 Mbs and up HD formats -- Varicam, CineAlta; plus film production.

There should also be a forum dedicated to the art of cinema.

These forums would bring more sophisticated audience to the site.

Plus another forum that would handle 4:2:2 SD formats.

Soon you'll also need blu-ray HD DVD forum, or this could be initially combined with the JVC HD forum.

I would be delighted to move forward with this, Joseph, however I would have to insist that the discussions within remain limited strictly to real-world topics such as operational details, specifications, implementation, etc. and not speculation, hype, evangelism, or long-winded essays about why one format is "better" than the other.

If there are enough interested parties who are committed to discussions of a hands-on, how-does-it-work nature, and not broad gesturing about the format, then I'll be happy to add this. We would need someone already working with the gear who would be willing to moderate those boards.

Chris, Steve Mullen and Charles Papert seem to be very knowledgeable. There may be others; I don’t know; I’m just too new here. I get on the site only when there is nothing to do on a project I’m involved with right now and that is not going very well, so there are plenty of breaks.

You have these major categories of forums. My suggestion would be one major category called “Beyond DV Resolution”. You could put the JVC HD10 forum in there and then have another forum on “HD, High-End (or Pro) SD and Film. This forum would naturally split into more forums in the future.

Another suggestion is to include more threads on the screen once you open a forum, especially if the forum will combine a number of different areas.

I believe that optical media will slowly replace tape. You should possibly add another forum with the SD cameras on “Other SD Cameras”.

I had free time so I tested postings on various film genres and it seems that it attracted more people than anything else. But your overall audience is weak art wise.

Your posts attracted people only by sheer volume. You posted so many threads that other peoples threads were forced off the first page.
