Big camera on 503

So were a chirch will a big-ol 2/3 inch studio cam in full configuration with a 20x lens at the back of the building on a teny tinny 503 head.

Lately following the pastor at on the 503 has't been great. So I am looking for something that is going to be easier to operate at the end of a long zoom.

I don't know squat about tripods except you fluid and O'conners are the best.

But we don't have much of a budget. Would a 3066 be an improvement from the 503. Anything around the 300-700 dallor range?

I've used up to 20 pounds on a Bogen 516 head and it worked great. I wish it wasn't too much head for the small form factor cams. The 519 is also a great head.
The 516 is right around $565.00 so it should be in your budget. The 519 is about $895.00.

Both heads are rated at 22 pounds but I've had close to 30 on the 516 and never had a problem.

it's not soo much about weight. the 503 takes it just fine. It's just not that good a head for critcical IMAG

Yes, I used a loaded out JVC5000 w/AB battery and wireless reciever hanging off of it (about 20 or 21 pounds) on a 501 head and it was fine BUT for critical and smooth pans and tilts it was a bit of a 'challenge'. That's why I went to the 516. Smooth as butter and once balanced for the camera it stayed in place better than my dog begging for table food.

The 519 looks nice, but you us penny pinchers. What do yallthink about the 3066?

Don Bloom May 29th, 2008 03:48 PM

Well the 3006 is an older head but that doesn't make it bad. I just don't think it's as good as the 516. If the 519 is out of budget why not look at the 516?
Like I said I was really happy with it for the full sized cameras but if you've got a lead on the 3066 for a good price and it's in decent condition why not!
