Vinten Pro6 Baseplate Adapters

Hi - I have a Vinten Pro6 Head.
It comes with a camera baseplate (part # 3808-900SP) that is approx 58mm x 90mm in size.

I've been trying to find a Quick Release Adapter that will work with this baseplate.

For example:
The Manfrotto MN-577 Quick Release Adapter will work with the Manfrotto 501/503 baseplates.

http://www.videogear.co.uk/index.php...&productId=455

However the Manfrotto 501/503 plate seems to be smaller in dimensions than my Vinten Pro-6 plate.

I understand that Manfrotto, Bogen and Vinten are all owned by the same parent company. I wonder if there is another Quick Release Adapter produced by one of these brands that will fit the Vinten Pro-6 plate.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Chris.

Hi Chris............

From memory, the Vinten Pro series heads ARE Manfrotto heads, simply re - badged.

I've just checked out the Vinten web site and yes, the plate used in their ProTouch range is the Manfrotto 501/ 503 plate (I'd know it anywhere, I've got at least three of them AND the quick release mechanism you highlighted in your post).

So, barring some bizarre re - engineering on Vintens part, their ProTouch plates will fit the adapter you mentioned.

PS: Manfrotto do this plate in a "long" version as well, which may account for any different dimensions you may have seen.

Hi Chris - thanks for that - Could you please do me a huge favour and measure the size of one of your 501/503 plates?
My vinten base plate is 58mm x 89mm - is this the same size as your 501/503 plate?

Thanks!

Chris.

Oh Dear...........

Did I drop myself in it big time with that one!

Working on the tried and true basis that if it quacked like a duck, waddled like a duck and propelled itself through water with big webbed feet, it was, indeed a duck, I proceeded to come gloriously un - duck(ed).

Following a furious e - mail exchange (the exchange was furious, we weren't) between CC (above) and myself, it has become evident that whilst I MAY have been correct about the Manfrotto heritage, I was anything but about the 501/ 503/ 519 lineage.

So, going back to the drawing board with this one, as far as I'm aware the only other quick release plate Manfrotto do that are anything remotely like these plates, are those for the 516/ 526 heads.

Can any kind soul out there with one of these heads (516/ 526) please take the metric measurements of their QRP at their widest points?

If they're 58 mm wide, it sounds like they (the Vinten Pro plates) are 516/ 526 plates.

If not, well, I dunno what they are.

Just as an aside, and apropo nothing whatsoever, the NEW ProTouch heads are side load, not end load, I discovered whilst researching this.

Thanks in advance,

CS (frame this post guys, I was actually wrong! Shock, Horror.)
