What's the right camera plate screw size?

I've been looking all over for a new tripod plate for my bogen 701RC2 tripod. I ordered and received the wrong one. they sent a 3/8" screw which is way too big for my Canon XH-Ai or my GL-2.
What is the right screw size?

thx

I went to a hardware store once and kept trying screws until I found one that fit. then i cut it to size

Hi

Right screw size is 1/4" UNC a standardized size in US. In millimeters it's 6,35 mm very hard to find in Europe.
But normaly you have two screw with the plate one 1/4" and one 3/8" but i'm not sure.

The smaller size tripod screw, in my opinion, is 1/4"-20.

The larger size is 3/8"-16. This is the standard on heavier cameras.

The second number is threads per inch.

Hi

Here is a link to your mysterious threads, UNC, UNF, UNEF
there is also other names "Kodak" and "Congré" the Kodak is the smaller, the larger the congré.

But the Dan's definition is better, and his opinion is the right.
