Joe,

I have a Vinten 3 and a VX2000 which weighs 4 lbs on my wife's kitchen scales (large battery is the only additional). I use a #1 spring and it will very slowly tilt back (about 1 degree per second) with this spring. So a #2 sounds more than enough given the other posts here on weights vs springs being used.
