Tripod for pd170

Hi, I have just bought a pd170 and now need a decent tripod. I am considering a manfrotto 503/525 or a vinten pro5 as they both have fluid heads, does anyone use either of these or have any recommendations?
I look forward to your comments.
Mark

just got my vinten pro 5. Its a manfrotto re-badged. Does anyone know anything about this, and is it a real fluid head like the supplier says?

I have a Vinten and LOVE it, but at $2K they're not cheap.

I was impressed at NAB with the Libec. B&H has them for under
$600 with spreader. At the time it seemed like the Libec blows the
doors of the bogan which always seems a bit sticky.

I think I will getting a Libec for our 2nd camera.

Did I say I love my Vinten?

Best,

Jacques

Vinten pro5 $2000 ? In uk this is £350. Are you mad or just looking at a different product?

I was talking about the *Vinten Vision 3*. The price is
$1849.95 @ B&H for the 2 stage aluminum legs kit. Carbon fibre
costs more.

I checked the Vision 5 and was not all that impressed in comparision.

I could not afford the vision 3 but bought the pro 5 thinking that all vintens were great. It turns out that the pro 5 has manfrotto sticks with a vinten badge. I think the head is a manfrotto 501 but I am not sure. I am really dissapointed as I took advice and bought the vinten over a manfrotto wich turns out to have a better head. The pro 5 is not available in the u.s. direct from vinten. I now wish I had waited to see what I was buying at a show. Ho hum.

Interesting. I was wondering why the Vision 5 seems so 'dumpy' in
comparison to the Vision 3. Now it make sense if what you say is true.

Never forget the *fact* you usually get what you pay for in this business.
