75mm vs 100mm bowl

I am in the market for a new tripod since I recently upgraded my camera to the Panasonic HPX 300. My other camera is an XL2 and I have the Sachtler DV4 system for that and I've been quite happy with that setup. With a bit heavier of a camera, I'm looking for a bit sturdier tripod and have several on my radar...but some have 75mm bowls and some have 100mm bowls. Am I correct in assuming the 100mm bowl just has more "ummph" for supporting larger cameras?
Does anyone have any suggestions for a tripod for the HPX 300? I'm looking to spend no more than $2k or so.
Thanks!

The first thing you will need to establish is whether to go for a 75mm or 100mm ball base size head. This will be determined by the size/weight of your camcorder. See under 75mm or 100mm bowl opening legs further down the page. For small to mid-sized camcorders such as the Sony Z1, Panasonic HVX200, Canon XL H2, JVC GY-HD100 etc, you will need a 75mm bowl/ball base head and for larger/heavier full size shoulder mounted camcorders such as a Sony XDCAM HD and DSR450 you will need a 100mm bowl/ball base head
