Inexpensive tripods to hold slider?

I'm building my own slider currently, and it appears it will be around 50 lbs when its all said and done. Now I'm figuring on needing two tripods, one on each end, since it is around 4 feet long. Needless to say its just holding up a slider so it doesn't need to be real expensive. I'm trying to maybe find a tripod thats half decent around 150 or less since I need two of em. I'd also be trying to go used to even cut the price down more lol.

Any recommendations?

Search google/ebay for the weifeng 717 tripod

All metal build, cheap, decent quality.

Second that suggestion. They are sold here in Canada under the E-Image name, and they are an excellent deal for the price. They should do the job well

Those tripods may be overkill if you are just going to use for slider. These would probably serve that need.

Given that the OP's slider is (!) 50 lbs (!!!!), I'm not sure a couple of Velbons are up to the task! I have one of those and it cam just about hold my 4lb Panasonic camera, not a mission of it holding my Glidetrack.

To just meet the requirements, they would need to support 50lbs of slider and (say) 10lbs of camera, probably a few lbs for a tripod head too. I'm presuming a big camera is being used, for that sort of slider. And if it was 60lbs all up, I would want a tripod rated for more than that, I feel it's never a good idea to work at the limits of the equipment.

50lbs is a helluva weight to carry round. James, is that right?

Re. the Weifang/E-Image option. In the UK, their AT7402A legs are rated at 40kg (80lbs?) and cost not much more than $120 or so. If you want two of them, that's less than $250, probably.
