One of my 3050 Legs is loosing the will to stay scoped out, any suggestions?
 

Hi there,
I have an old set of bogen 3050 legs and one of the legs slowly glides/scopes back in about an inch or more, then stops, but maybe not for long. Is there anything I can do short of duct tape to restore it to a better condition?

i'm not familiar with this brand of tripod, but is it a 'clasp' system or a twisting telescopic system?

If its the twisting system, sounds to me like some DIY will fix it. Take the tripod leg apart (if possible/and if you're brave enough) have a look and see if the rubber washer is perishing, if it is, take it to a DIY and buy a similar one.

Same thing happened on my old stills tripod, of course the system inside the Bogen may be very different.

Most have a cross bolt or screw that passes through right at the clamp. If yours does, you need to tighten it just until it holds as you want it to.

If you need more help, just post a picture.

As a last resort I would not use duct tape, because once you start, it will gum up the mechanism, and you will be stuck at one length. If you can't get it fixed right, go to a hardware or automotive store and get a simple hose clamp. Put it around the bad leg, and when you get it extended where you want it, just tighten the clamp. You can just loosen it up later and fold your tripod up.
