Unusual tripod mounting question

Hi,
Most tripods are designed so that the pivot point is under the centre of the camera body, for obvious reasons of balance etc. However I want to try and set up my tripod for a particular shot so that the pivot point/tripod head is directly under the front of the lens (i.e so the whole camera rotates around the lens). Using my HD100 this would mean that the camera would need to be about 12 inches back from the current pounting point on the tripod head. Obviously this will lead to stability problems, but I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this, and how they went about it?

Hi Paul,

Just make an attachment (using some type of metal) allowing the Cam to be in the position you want, and maybe extent it out front enough to add some counter weight to the underside of the attachment.

I've not done what you're wanting to do, but I did make up an attachmnet to mount the cam about 16" to 18" out to the side, so I could shoot around a corner at a Horse Barn.

Should be rather easy. Can send you a Pic of what I made up if interested.

Harold
